E-Learning
For many people the dream of getting a college or university education has been hampered by family life, work and the time to actually get back to school. To help you, a new face of learning, called e-learning, is now being delivered via a computer and the Internet. The course work is conducted through electronic
forums, discussion groups in a virtual classroom that is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
The e-learning service is the result of an Ontario government initiative (with the participation of over 30 Ontario colleges and universities as
well as local organizations) to
provide greater access locally to more education and training
opportunities.
The elearnnetwork.ca has everything anyone could need to study and succeed in
this community. There are more than 7,500 courses and hundreds of
certificate, college diploma and university degree programs to choose from,
including e-Channel literacy and basic skills courses. The Ausable Community
Centre has high-speed computers and equipment available for the use of the
community.
Through elearnnetwork.ca, students have the ability to pursue and complete
basic literacy courses, workplace skills, computer courses, high school courses,
professional development courses, college certificates, college diplomas,
undergraduate university degrees, as well as graduate degrees.
In smaller communities and rural areas where there is no college or university
campus, people have limited options and face barriers such as no access to
high-speed Internet. The inconvenience and cost of travel is also an issue. The
use of distance e-learning technology outside major urban centres is one of the
most efficient and effective ways to quickly increase access to higher education.
